Design & Construction of Highway/Railway Grade Crossings

This presentation is intended to provide AREMA recommendations to highway designers for projects that have railroad at-grade crossings. Design and construction elements will also be presented.  If you are a consultant for highway agencies, a County Engineer, State Design Engineer, City Public Works Directors or a member of their staff, then this webinar is for you. College Educators and Students will also benefit from attending.

This course is comprised of recommended practices and relevant accumulated knowledge from subject matter experts in the railroad industry. It is not intended as a regulatory qualification.

PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES


Jennifer Crumbliss, PE is a senior transportation engineer, professional associate with experience in interstate highway, drainage design, permitting, construction staging and traffic control layouts including design of over 290 railroad crossings. Jennifer has over 34 years of experience with 25 years in a lead engineer or project manager role on a variety of project sizes. Working with Union Pacific Managers of Industry & Public Projects (MIPPs), she coordinated roadway design approvals with 43 different local municipalities including 10 counties, 8 state DOT districts, 25 cities and the three permitting authorities. 

Jason Field, PE is a licensed Professional Engineer and is an industry leader in preemption as well as an expert on all things crossing safety.  Working for over 21 years exclusively in the overlapping ROW of highways and railroads throughout the country, he has developed the bi-lingual talents imperative for balancing the needs of roadway agencies and railroads when it comes to safety, efficiency and benefit / cost issues around the railroad crossing.  

As the Chair of the Warning System Installation and Maintenance Subcommittee on AREMA Committee 36 and a heavily engaged member of the Railroad Committee of the NCUTCD, Jason stays at the forefront of discussions and changes to the crossing safety industry.
 
Joseph Schofield, PE is experienced in Freight Rail Public Projects, Crossing Safety, and Quiet Zone projects serving Class 1 freight railway companies in the continental U.S.  He has supported several hundred highway-railway projects over the past 11 years, with 17 years of professional experience.  He holds a Professional Engineering license in the state of Florida, Bachelor of Civil Engineering, and a Master’s in Business Administration.
