Structures Functional Group

This committee is responsible for the development and publication of recommended practices and information relating to the design, fabrication, erection and painting of steel railway bridges. They also recommend procedures for inspection, maintenance and rating of existing steel bridges.

Ballots

Sub-Committees and Current Assignments

Sub-Committee A: Recommendations for Further Investigation and Research.

Subcommittee B: Revision of Manual.

Subcommittee 1: Design Loadings and Stresses. Responsible for material in portions of Part 1 (design issues) of Chapter 15.

C1-1-87: Evaluate data produced from AAR (and other) bridge research programs and evaluate as to its suitability for inclusion in the Manual. Ongoing assignment.

Subcommittee 2: Materials. Responsible for material in portions of Part 1 (material issues) of Chapter 15.

C2-1-92: Review and update fracture control plan, collaborating with the AWS and AASHTO. Ongoing assignment.

Subcommittee 3: Fabrication and Erection. Responsible for material in all of Parts 3 and 4 of Chapter 15.

Subcommittee 4: Moveable Bridges. This committee is responsible for material in all of Part 6 of Chapter 15.

Subcommittee 5: Ratings. This committee is responsible for material in a portion of Part 7 (Section 7.3) of Chapter 15.

Subcommittee 6: Repairs and Maintenance. Responsible for material in a portion of Part 7 (all portions except Sections 7.3 and 7.5.3) and a portion of Part 8 (Sections 8.2 and 8.6) of Chapter 15.

C6-1-88: Develop methods for repairing damaged steel bridge members. Ongoing assignment.

Subcommittee 7: Bearings. Responsible for materials in all of Parts 10 and 11 of Chapter 15.

Subcommittee 8: Painting and Special Construction. Responsible for portions of Part 7 (Section 7.5.3) and portions of Part 8 (all portions except Sections 8.2 and 8.6) of Chapter 15.

D8-1-93: Develop section on protective coatings for new and existing structures. Ongoing assignment.
