Who Should Participate?

Persons who are professionally involved in rail transportation planning, designing, construction, operations, managing or teaching, and /or establishing transportation policy will find this trip of great value. The specific site venues are geared toward infrastructure issues and their interface with rolling stock and transportation policy; however, every stopover will include activities general enough to appeal to persons of many divergent professional backgrounds. Note there will be very little time for non-rail sightseeing during the trip.

Program Highlights

The tour is designed for rail professionals to sample a myriad of new passenger rail technologies implemented in Europe over the last decade. The trip will include visits to many rail modes including high speed rail, airport railway connections, multi-modal terminals, metros, light rail and dual mode streetcars. Technology inspections will include notable track and roadway projects, bridge & tunnel projects, station & maintenance depot projects and signal & communication projects.

Participants may enter and leave the tour at any point. A one week rate is available for those only joining the tour for 7 days or less, otherwise the full registration rate is applicable.

The Tour Leader is Mark Walbrun, PE, Vice President, TranSystems and AREMA Passenger & Transit Functional Group Vice President.
