Who Should Attend?
The seminar is targeted to:
Owners, Operators, Fire Services, Risk Managers, Planners, Designers, Human Factors Specialists, Architects and Engineers.

Why Should You Attend?
The ability to simulate the movement of people under both normal and emergency conditions provides a powerful tool for planning the layout of station features to ensure efficient passenger flows, and for the development of procedures for emergency situations.

Evacuation from subway and railway stations, tunnels and similar large facilities can be a complex process, particularly when events are accompanied by threats to the occupants, such as fire and smoke, and their potential impact on evacuation routes. Evacuation performance can be significantly affected by design, forward planning, and facility staff training to optimize operator intervention.

The seminar will outline the concepts required in undertaking evacuation and pedestrian modeling assessments and provide application examples based on the STEPS (Simulation of Transient Evacuation and Pedestrian MovementS) program. It will be shown how the use of real-time 3D simulations can be interpreted by both non-specialists and designers alike, and the quantitative output enables inputs to risk and cost-benefit analyses of different design features. STEPS has been applied to a number of major projects worldwide including: Minneapolis LRT, Canada’s Edmonton Airport, Delhi Metro in India and the International Center for Life in the UK.

AREMA
This seminar is sponsored by and developed under the auspices of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).
