Positive Train Control (PTC) 101

An introduction into Positive Train Control (PTC) and its application in rail.  This course is comprised of recommended practices and relevant accumulated knowledge from subject matter experts in the railroad industry. It is not intended as a regulatory qualification.

Presenter Biography

David Garcia is the Vice President – Transportation Systems with Piper Networks and has 10 years of Rail & Transit Systems Integration of mission critical vital and non-vital train control systems. David has been at his current position with Piper Networks for two years, previously David has served in several key roles in the development of PTC and CBTC systems across the United States. David has been an active participant of AREMA Committee 39 since 2016.

Jonathan Calderon is the Director of PTC Engineering at Metra (Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corporation) and has 10 years of Positive Train Control experience. Jonathan has been in his current position at Metra since June of 2021, previously Jonathan worked at Metra as the PTC Operations Manager since September 2018. Before this, Jonathan worked at Parsons Transportation Group where he was the Test Manager on the Systems Integration contract with Metra and Metrolink for PTC Implementation since 2013. Jonathan has been an active participant of AREMA Committee 39 since 2016.
