Technical Committee 13 - Environmental

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to support the broader Railroad Community for all Environmental Engineering and Maintenance concerns. Comprised of a diverse range of Subject Matter Experts, Committee 13 provides value through best practices, guidance and education of the Railroad Community on existing and emerging regulatory trends.


Our Vision is to be advocates to railroads and transit organizations through environmental education and training.


Relevant - Provide timely and pertinent support on Environmental needs.
Supportive - Be the resource to AREMA’s membership and the broader Freight/Transit community.
Collaborative - Leverage Committee 13’s internal Subject Matter Experts to assist AREMA more broadly through sub-committee assignments, webinars, articles and advocacy.
Knowledgeable - Be the resource for broad areas of technology, regulatory, and operational needs.
Reliable - Provide factual and timely support on evolving environmental issues affecting the railroads.

Working Groups

To support the Mission, Vision and Values of Committee 13, we have established working groups that develop and implement activities consistent with their stated objectives.   

Technical Publications/Conference Presentations 
  • Objective:  Develop publications on industry-specific emerging technical/regulatory issues and presentations for industry conferences.
  • Members:  Peter Masson/Golder (chair), Leandra Cleveland/HDR, and Doug Dorsey/Hanson
  • Objective:  Provide relevant professional development and continuing education opportunity for AREMA members.
  • Members: Janet Hill/Arcadis (chair), Mark Bergeon/Golder, Lori Price/Jacobs, Josh Sales/Kennedy Jenks, and Martina Schlauch/Arcadis

  • Objective:  Expand membership in Committee 13 through increased visibility and value creation by active members.
