The 2020 Dr. William W. Hay Award for Excellence was awarded to Hanson Professional Services Inc. with “Norfolk Southern’s Grand River Bridge Emergency Repairs in Brunswick, Missouri”. This bridge collapsed under the pressure of a flooded river and debris, and was restored to service in 27 days. The project team worked around the clock, during most challenging and dangerous flood conditions, to replace part of the bridge and restore rail traffic for NS on this core route. The project team implemented innovative design elements, best practice safety measures, and demonstrated a high degree of skill, professionalism, and collaboration.
