AREMA Coronavirus Response

We have received some inquiries about future planning related to AREMA Committee Meetings/Events occurring during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 outbreak (COVID-19) and AREMA’s position on having or not having those meetings.

At this time, we are closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other sites that discuss the situation.  In addition, we are working closely with Association counterparts and Human Resource Associations, so we can be informed of what their recommendations are at this time.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes:

Americans should be prepared for the possibility of a COVID-19 outbreak in their community. The community can take measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Everyone has a role to play in getting ready and staying healthy.

Currently a vaccine is not available for COVID-19. Until a vaccine is developed, community-based interventions such as school dismissals, event cancellations, social distancing, and creating employee plans to work remotely can help slow the spread of COVID-19.  Individuals can practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs and sneezes (CDC - Prevention & Treatment)

As you may be aware, to date, the CDC has reported that domestic travel has not been affected.  There are international destinations that are affected and those are listed on the CDC site.  At this time, we are not putting any travel restrictions on AREMA events, however, it is a personal decision to attend/not attend a meeting.

As this is a developing situation, things could change quickly, and we will be working with our Leadership to provide guidance and will communicate with you should something change.  We do ask that if your companies start to restrict travel that you let us know as well.  This will be helpful as we consider future Meetings/Events.

As with everyone, our concern is the safety of our staff, members and industry supporters. We are concerned with this situation but recommend following government protocols and suggestions.  We want to stay informed and make informed decisions based on the information that is being provided by all Agencies.  We will be following Government Recommended Guidelines as everyone works through this health concern.
