Introduction to Sustainability and Resilience
This On Demand Webinar is intended to provide a baseline understanding of the concepts of sustainability and resilience and how they can be applied within the railroad industry, and more specifically within the engineering and maintenance functions of the railroads. The Class I freight rail industry has been reporting on its sustainability efforts for nearly a decade. Initial efforts by the industry have focused on improving fuel efficiency and reducing locomotive emissions. The next step will be to incorporate sustainability and resiliency concepts into capital project design, construction, maintenance, and operation. In fact, decisions regarding railroad capital projects have always included some of these concepts – such as material reuse, waste minimization, and lower-energy approaches.
