Steps to Establishing an AREMA Student Chapter

  • Submit the following documents to the AREMA Student Chapter Coordinator by emailing [email protected]:

    1. PETITION - Confirmation that your Chapter has met the requirements to be considered for becoming a new AREMA Student Chapter.

    Requirements include:

    • At least one ABET or CEAB accredited engineering program at the university
    • At least 5 students with active AREMA student membership at the university
    • A founding executive board with at least a president and a treasurer selected (more officers can be added as needed)
    • One advisor with active associate AREMA membership or higher
      1. The AREMA Advisor can either be university faculty, or a railroad industry professional who has volunteered to serve in the role.
      2.  AREMA can help pair you with advisor candidates.

    1. CHARTER - AREMA’s requirements for all Chapters

    Requirements include:

    • Chapter to host a minimum of 6 rail-related events per calendar year
    • Officers to attend at least 3 of 4 annual AREMA coordination calls

          3. BY-LAWS - Additional policies your Chapter adopts for self governance:

    • Chapter membership requirements
    • Officer nominations and elections
    • Responsibilities of each officer
    • How disputes will be resolved

    Upon approval, the new Chapter will receive $1,000 in initial funding, be recognized on AREMA’s website, and be added to the program’s mailing list. You can then begin hosting railroad-oriented events on campus and attend AREMA’s Conferences as a Student Chapter. For additional guidance, please reach out to [email protected]
