On behalf of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), I welcome you to the AREMA 2015 Annual Conference being held as part of the major North American railway industry event, Railway Interchange 2015.
This year’s program will again provide an excellent opportunity for members of the railway industry to increase their knowledge and experience. I want to extend a special welcome to the first time attendees, who in many cases represent the new generation of leaders in the railroad industry.
The Program Committee has assembled a great slate of 69 technical presentations that I’m sure you will find informative and valuable in your jobs in the industry. Because of the large number of abstracts submitted, we have expanded some of the Tuesday Technical Sessions to include more presentations. Please note that Professional Development Hours are earned for participating in the Conference, subject to the individual state board’s final authority.
In addition to the technical presentations there are also a number of seminars and technical committee meetings either in advance of or following the Conference. Please be sure to register for seminars early because they fill up quick!
AREMA and CMA (Coordinated Mechanical Associations) will join together and offer a combined Opening General Session on Monday, October 5, 2015. We are pleased that Robert O’Neill, Team Leader, Naval Special Warfare Development Group and a highly trained Navy SEAL will be the keynote speaker at this event. Mr. O’Neill has deployed more than a dozen times, held combat leadership roles and is one of the nations most decorated veterans. O’Neill has trained more than 800 special operations and tactical operators and plans to bring this unique expertise to our group. He will translate this elite SEAL team training into a high-impact presentation.
James A. Squires, President of Norfolk Southern Corporation will be speaking at the Annual Chairs’ Luncheon on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 and Anthony B. Hatch, noted financial analyst, will be presenting an “Industry Update” on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.
The Exhibition, conducted by RSI, REMSA and RSSI will officially begin on Sunday, October 4, 2015 and will run through Tuesday, October 6, 2015. There will be indoor exhibits at the Minneapolis Convention Center and there will also be outside exhibits at the BNSF Northtown Rail Yard. Please review the Exhibition Schedule for more information. More than 632 exhibitors from various contractors, suppliers and consulting firms will provide you the opportunity to see first-hand some of their products and services and to learn how they can benefit you and your company. AREMA Conference registrants will have full access to the Exhibition and Rail Yard.
Again, welcome to the AREMA 2015 Annual Conference. Please take advantage of this excellent opportunity to converse with your fellow railroaders, exchange ideas and learn more about the industry. Feel free to contact the AREMA staff or me with any questions you might have about this year’s event. We look forward to you joining us this year.
