LinkedIn can be a great tool to help position yourself for a great internship, or even your fist job. During this webinar, we’ll go through some best practices, the features of Linkedin, what Google says about you, and some “is this safe to post?” case studies. HR managers, hiring managers, recruiters and others will look at your online presence – make sure it accurately reflects you!

Presented by: Ashley Pate, TranSystems, National Marketing Coordinator – Freight

Bio: Ashley is Vice Chair of Committee 24 and member of Committee 14. She works at TranSystems as a national marketing coordinator for its freight sector. Ashley has been using social media personally for 12 years and professionally for more than 8 years. She currently manages the AREMA group on LinkedIn, which has grown to 7,000 members. Ashley has a B.S. in Journalism, with a specialization in Strategic Communications, from the University of Kansas. She was selected as one of Progressive Railroading’s Rising Star in 2013

Leadership Working Lunch

This will be a time for the student chapters to discuss amongst each other ideas and lessons learned as well as provide feedback to on how AREMA can help make the students experience through the chapters, AREMA membership and conference a success.

Hosted by: Amanda Limburg, David Evans and Associates, Inc., Freight Rail Project Manager

Bio: Amanda graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 2009 with a BS in Civil Engineering. Amanda moved to Denver, CO in 2014 to join the growing freight rail group at David Evans and Associates, Inc. Amanda has designed and managed rail and site civil projects for a variety of clients including Class I railroads, ports, rail-served industries, and public agencies. These projects have included intermodal and automotive facilities, transit stations, main line improvements, rail-served industry facilities, road/rail grade separations, planning studies and permitting assistance. Amanda is currently a member of AREMA Committee 24, serving as the student chapter coordinator. Amanda enjoys mentoring young professionals, playing soccer, cooking and crafting. Amanda likes to spend her free time outside (hiking, traveling, camping) with her family, friends, and two dogs, Opal and Rocky.


This session will provide information on the conference, AREMA, and the railroad industry to assist students in making the most out of your conference and AREMA experience.

AREMA Committee 24 Collegiate Quiz Bowl

Join us for the trivia-style team Quiz bowl competition. Guidelines with entry forms are attached. Each Student Chapter is allowed at least one team in the competition. Additional teams from a Student Chapter can sign-up on a first-come, first-serve waiting list. In addition, there are two Members-At-Large teams. These teams are reserved for individuals that are not on a Student Chapter team, but would like to participate. All entries are due August 18th. Notifications will be sent out to waiting list teams shortly after all entries are received. Entries and questions should be directed to the Student Chapter Coordinator at

Poster Competition

There will be an undergraduate and graduate poster competition to showcase students research and projects. Each University is allowed at least one graduate and one undergraduate entry in the competition. Additional entries will be put on a waiting list. Guidelines and entry forms are attached. Pay particular attention to the updates to the entry form requirements, rubric for scoring, and judging this year. All entries are due to the Student Chapter Coordinator at by August 18th. Waiting list notifications will be sent out shortly after all entries have been received.

Networking Social

A new event this year will be a Networking Social for students and AREMA Members to network while viewing the poster entries in the poster competition. This will be an interactive event, so come ready to engage your fellow railroad industry members.
