Critical Geometry Defects
The Critical Geometry Defects Webinar takes a deep dive into the causes, effects and maintenance prevention of the top four track geometry defects: Surface/Profile, Gage, Alinement and Warp/Twist. This webinar breaks down each issue, the factors involved and examines their overall impact on the health of the track. In addition, the webinar reviews the different approaches available to detect and measure these defects. This is a class for anyone new to track geometry, track maintenance, or someone interested in updating their knowledge on track geometry maintenance practices.
The webinar will be conducted on the Zoom platform.
This webinar is comprised of recommended practices and relevant accumulated knowledge from subject matter experts in the railroad industry. It is not intended as a regulatory qualification.
Presenter Biography
Brad Spencer
is the Director of Track Testing in the Engineering Department at CSX Transportation Inc. at Jacksonville, FL since 2018. Brad was Director of Train Accident Prevention from 2016 to 2018 where he was tasked with investigating, analyzing, and training investigations of train derailments. He has worked as Engineer of Track – Rail testing for 7 years and 12 years as Manager of Track Geometry.
Brad started his railroad career at Conrail in 1993. Brad has spent 25 years of his career in the track testing group in system engineering. He has helped develop projects, including non-stop, continuous, rail testing for CSX. He is currently leading CSX in the Automated Track Inspection Pilot with the FRA.
Brad has a BS from Penn State University. He is a member of AREMA committee 4 and 2, and a graduate of CSX Business Leadership at University of Maryland. He is part of the CSX team for FRA RSACs on rail integrity and automated track inspection since 2008.
