Industrial Track Development

This webinar is focused on the entire Industrial Track development process from inception through to completion.  Participants will gain insight as to the Industrial Track design and construction process. Elements of the process include: background, conceptual design, a case study, final design, railroad review, approval, construction and procurement.

Presenter Bios: 


Mark Austin is currently the Director of Asset Management – Track within the Engineering and Asset Management division of Metrolinx, which is a small passenger railway in Toronto, Canada. Mark has bene with Metrolinx over 12 years and has occupied previous positions, such as Senior Manager, Manager and Project Manager. Mark is well versed in all assets of the railway including design, construction, maintenance and standards. Mark has been associated with AREMA since 2018 and is currently the Chairman of Subcommittee 7 – Track Construction and Maintenance of Committee 5 – Track, as well as a member of Committee 11 – Commuter and intercity rail systems, subcommittee D3 – Track and roadway considerations.

John Hilborn, PE has over 21-years’ experience in railroad engineering and construction. Previously he has worked for a railroad track contractor and managed engineering and maintenance-of-way departments for shortline railroads. Currently he is the Senior Rail Engineer for a consulting firm where he manages track design, construction, and public projects. John serves on AREMA Committee 5, Subcommittees 7 and 8.

Kyle Medick, PE has over 14 years of experience managing both design and construction of railroad projects. He has experience with track geometry design and the delivery of complete plan sets for industrial development customers. As for construction, Kyle has worked for general contractors managing new railroad projects, yard expansions, and mainline improvements. In Kyle’s current role as a Resident Engineer, he acts as the railroad's representative delivering construction projects. In the past, Kyle has served on AREMA’s Committee 14 – Yards & Terminals and is a current member of Committee 5 – Track, Subcommittee 7 – Track Construction and Maintenance.
